About

As main rapper and leader of BTS, Kim Nam-joon -- better known as RM or Rap Monster -- topped charts across the globe with the K-pop powerhouse boy band, while also launching a successful solo career in 2015 with debut mixtape RM.In addition to his own hip-hop material, he collaborated with the likes of Warren G, MFBTY, Wale , and Fall Out Boy.
Born in Ilsan, South Korea, the Seoul-based artist developed a love of hip-hop at a young age (influenced by Korean rap outfit Epik High ), and honed his English skills by viewing the American television show Friends. He started performing as Runch Randa and collaborated with fellow Korean rapper Zico. It wasn't until 2010, during auditions with Big Hit, that Kim was recruited as the first member of BTS .

Soon joined by Suga, J-Hope, Jin, Jimin, Jungkook, and V, Kim and his BTS bandmates quickly ascended to the top of the K-pop ranks, breaking chart records in the U.S. -- where they became the first Asian act to top the Billboard 200 with 2018's Love Yourself: Tear -- and selling out world tours. On the side, Kim branched out with his own solo material, debuting in 2015 with the self-titled mixtape, RM, which peaked at number 12 on the U.S. World Albums chart. Three years later, he issued his sophomore solo effort, Mono, which bested his previous effort with a strong number two showing on the World Albums chart. ~ Neil Z. Yeung, Rovi

BTS's RM is the first Asian Act in history to have a #1 album in 100 countries on the iTunes Album Chart

Kim Namjoon or more famously known by his stage name “RM” reaches a new milestone on the iTunes album chart with his 2nd mixtape “Mono” and set a new record. RM’s Mono was released back on October 23, 2018. It was praised by music critics and also did exceptionally well in charts for a free mixtape! RM charted on Billboard 200 at #26 with Mono and was the Asian Act With Most #1’s on iTunes Album Chart Worldwide. The iTunes record was later broken by 'Map Of The Soul : 7' by BTS.
RM is now the First & Only Asian Act in history to have #1 in 100 countries on the iTunes Album Chart. RM joins Ed Sheeran, Adele, Taylor Swift, Beyoncè, Camila Cabello, One Direction, Justin Bieber, Justin Timberlake, Katy Perry, Drake, Eminem, Cold play, and Ariana Grande as the only artists to have achieved this.

“Strange,” the song RM worked on with Suga, debuted at No. 4 on last week’s Rap Digital Song Sales chart, a very impressive and rarely-seen placement for a tune performed in a language other than English. By opening as high as it did, the cut now stands as the third-highest-charting song in the list’s history by a South Korean musician of any kind. RM is the fourth soloist from his country to find himself on the ranking, as CL, J-Hope and Suga all count as solo acts, even if they’ve also scored wins with groups.
