About

iKon (Korean: 아이콘), stylized as iKON, is a South Korean boy band formed in 2015 by YG Entertainment. The group was first introduced in the reality survival program WIN: Who is Next as "Team B". After that, Team B went on to appear in the 2014 reality survival program Mix & Match, which determined the final seven-member lineup of iKon: B.I, Bobby, Jinhwan, Ju-ne, Yunhyeong, Donghyuk and Chanwoo.
The group released their debut studio album Welcome Back (2015), which debuted atop the South Korean Gaon Album Chart and produced the number-one singles "My Type", "Apology" and "Dumb & Dumber" and three top-ten singles: "Rhythm Ta", "Airplane" and "Anthem". The album was commercially a success, selling 260,000 copies in Asia, and the songs sold 4.8 million copies, which lead the group to win several best new artist awards on major Asia award shows, including Mnet Asian Music Awards, Japan Record Awards and QQ Music Awards. The following two years, the group released the singles "#WYD" and "New Kids: Begin", and they focused on their first Asia tour and several Japanese tours. The group's second studio album, Return, was released on January 25, 2018.

Prior to the group's formation, group leader B.I featured on MC Mong's 2009 song "Indian Boy". He performed with MC Mong at the 2009 SBS Dream Concert, as well as on You Hee-yeol's Sketchbook. Group vocalist Ju-ne also made a pre-debut appearance aged thirteen on the SBS variety show Star King. He also competed on SBS's K-pop Star in 2011.[1][2] On January 3, 2011, B.I and Jinhwan joined YG Entertainment as trainees, as did Bobby a week later. The three trained together for a year and formed the basis of what was to become "Team B". On April 18, 2012, Ju-ne and Yunhyeong joined Team B, followed by Donghyuk as the sixth and final member on November 5, 2012.
In 2013, B.I, Bobby, Jinhwan, Ju-ne, Donghyuk, and Yunhyeong competed as Team B on the Mnet reality survival show WIN: Who Is Next, competing against other trainees in "Team A" for the chance to debut as a group. The program involved three rounds of performances and public voting, after which Team B eventually lost to Team A, who debuted as Winner.[3] During the program, Team B released two singles: "Just Another Boy" and "Climax". The members of Team B appeared as backup dancers in Taeyang's music video for "Ringa Linga".
Following the programs success, the iKon members held fan meetings in Korea, Japan, and China. In September, approximately 40,000 Japanese fans applied for 2,000 tickets at a fan meeting at Osaka Tojima River Forum, while more than 50,000 Chinese fans applied for their fan meeting in Beijing. The program was aired on December 29, 2014 on the CS channel in Japan.[7] On December 15, 2014, iKon performed as the opening act at Bigbang's Japan Dome Tour 2014-2015 X.[8] On January 28, 2015, Billboard listed the group as one of the "Top 5 K-Pop Artists to Watch in 2015". They were the only group on the list that had yet to debut.[

Most Concert goers in Japan

iKON is the fourth among K-pop groups who are attracting the most concertgoers in Japan. Top three in the list are Bigbang, TVXQ, and SHINee, respectively.

The title track of their comeback album, Love Scenario, made a history and continues to break records over and over that no group has ever done in the past 10 years.
Aside from the fact that all the songs in their comeback album charted on South Korea’s music charts, iKON’s Love Scenario recorded the highest number of hourly Perfect All-Kills, not just in K-pop, but in all music genre in South Korea.
Love Scenario recorded an astounding hourly 204 Perfect All-Kills. Next to the list is IU x Park Myung Soo’s “Leon” which recorded 136 hourly Perfect All-Kills. iKON topped South Korea’s music charts for 6 weeks with equal and wide range of listeners— men, women, children, adults, young adults, teens, and more.

iKON’s Love Scenario won 11 awards on South Korean music shows with triple crowns on Inkigayo, M!Countdown, and MBC Music Core.
iKON became the first K-pop group in 2018 to achieve Perfect All-Kill and won triple crowns on music shows. Last April 2018, three months after iKON’s comeback, iKON’s Love Scenario ranked no.1 with the most digital index for K-pop groups in 2018.

iKON became the second Korean artists with the most songs ranking on QQ Music Chart. iKON recorded 17 total weeks on the chart with their songs Love Scenario, My Type, Bling Bling, #WYD, I Miss You So Bad, and Welcome Back. The first artist on the list is Bigbang.
While iKON’s Love Scenario is still charting on all of South Korea’s music charts, it continues on breaking records over and over that no new K-pop groups had made in 10 years. iKON’s Love Scenario is the only new song from the new generation of K-pop boy groups that made into the Top 10 longest charting song since 2007. The list was consists of Bigbang, Super Junior, FT Island, and 2PM. Other group outside the top 10 is Winner.

iKON’s leader, B.I., wrote all iKON’s songs— from pre-debut until today. Other members like Bobby and Ju-Ne, also contributed to their songs. It has been 2 years and 7 months since iKON’s debut, but seeing these achievements will make you realize how hardworking iKON are as a group and as individual members. Indeed, they deserve the acknowledgement that the group is receiving right now.
